Dear MHP Friends,

This Sunday we will have Tori Smit as our worship leader.  Her sermon title is “Blessed to be a blessing.”  The three scriptural passages are from Genesis 12:1-9, Psalm 15 and Mark 16:14-20.

All of us at MHP wish to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped with food table items, set-up and clean-up, and especially the Stewardship Committee (J.P. and Lauren) for last Sunday’s successful LAWN BBQ event.

Also, what a special time we had during worship at the Commissioning of our Sunday School teachers.

Did you know that Monday, October 5 is WORLD HABITAT DAY? Our Mission & Outreach Team plans to celebrate this day by creating a gift basket for the Costa family of 14 members whom we supported in 2013-2014. The family moved in to a new specially built home 2 storey, 8 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms at 828 Runnymede Road, near St. Clair, in 2014.  One of the Costa family members came to our worship service to speak of her family’s deep gratitude and delight of our financial support.  Today we are asking if you could contribute an item for the gift basket on Sunday September 27 (i.e. Dried fruit, tea, coffee, chocolate, a magazine, Tim’s gift cards, and gift cards from grocery, book and clothing stores in the area etc.) The basket will be arranged and then delivered to the family on Sunday October 4 by a member of the M & O Team.  Thanks in advance for your generosity.

During the next three weeks September 27, October 4 & 11, the Mission & Outreach Team is calling for canned and boxed food donations to be collected and taken to Evangel Hall later on Thanksgiving Sunday.  Please try to help us make a generous total contribution to our downtown inner city mission.  Thanks for your continuing and participating generosity at this time.

Dear MHP Friends,

This Sunday we shall be led in worship by Dr. Philip Yoo who has led our MHP congregation in Worship a number of times in the recent past.

The biblical passages during worship are:

• Psalm 84 and Ephesians 6: 10-20
• The minister’s reading is John 6:56-69

Our week of VBS has gone very well indeed. VBS children came from MHP, Runnymede Presbyterian, Bonar-Parkdale Presbyterian as well as friends and neighbourhood children.

During the 5 days the children have learned much about the work of various organisations who work in our midst in the service of God. May we all show our gratitude to each of the teachers and staff for who have given their time in planning and carrying out their mission and service.

We are especially grateful for the work of our leaders and volunteers during the week: Sandy , Hildy  & Peter , Kim & Matt  and Gina  from MHP. There were also 4 volunteers from each of the other two Churches and one from the neighborhood in support of our VBS program this year.

The theme during the week has been “The Quest”

On Monday, Campers heard the story of Mary, Joseph, and Baby Jesus fleeing to Egypt (Matthew 2:13-14) and learned about the work of an organization that helps people in the modern day who sometimes have to flee their homes: Action Réfugiés Montréal. They also connected this with Monday’s Skill of the Day: learning to walk in someone else’s shoes.

On Tuesday, they talked about who our neighbours are as they hear the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:29-35) and learned about the work being done at Winnipeg Inner City Mission. Campers also continued their quest for empathy by learning to imagine what other people might be feeling.

On Wednesday, the Skill of the Day was listening, and campers heard about how Jesus listened to those that most people ignored as they learned the story of the Woman at the Well (John 4:7-26). They also learned about Boarding Homes Ministry in Toronto, an outreach program that fosters community between volunteers and residents of boarding homes in the city.

On Thursday, campers practice valuing and recognising everyone. They heard about 1 Corinthians 12:15-27, which tells us that we are all vital parts of one body in Christ, as well as learning about a way to appreciate and support less-advantaged members of the broader community through your city’s food bank.

On Friday, campers explored 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 and talked about what exactly the ‘love’ in ‘love your neighbour’ means. They used their love in Friday’s mission, which was to show appreciation to the host church for having CYOB! They also learned just what we can do in times when we forget to love our neighbour, in Friday’s Skill of the Day: saying ‘sorry’.

Other news and reminders:

• The LAWN BBQ date is set for September 13th following worship (11:30 – 1:00 p.m.).  Please mark your calendars for this happy time together.
• The basement washroom which was formerly the men’s is now in progress being reconstructed as a new women’s washroom.
• Our upstairs kitchen is being repainted this month – current yellow paint has been chipping and peeling since the last painting was done. The Women’s Association is keen to cover the costs related to this work.

Dear MHP Friends,

This Sunday Rev. Shelley Howard will lead us in worship.  Her sermon title is “How’s your Love Life”.  Scripture readings are found in Psalm 105:1-11 and John 21:15-25.

This Sunday we welcome our guest musicians: Axeff and Maximilian Ungvary (recorder and cello), Erik Gero (organ, piano) and Mark Fulep, an outstanding Hungarian Flute virtuoso playing on a Yamaha 14 karat gold Flute he has been awarded by the Hungarian government. Mark has been invited to perform at the International Flute Convention at the University of Toronto. He is offering a Master Class/Coaching session after the service at the church, from 2 p.m. Auditors are also welcome. At the end of the master class Mark will give a short recital and demonstration on a number of folk instruments of the flute family. It will be a rare treat, do plan to attend.

Vacation Bible Camp (August 17-21) planning is proceeding with very few children actually registered at this point.  If you are interested please pick up a registration package from the narthex and deliver to the MHP office ASAP… not later than Friday, July 31st.

Finally, on another note altogether, it is good news to report that basement washroom renovations will begin this August !!!

Once again this Sunday we are privileged to have Rev. Jim Biggs leading us in worship.  His sermon title is “Remember the duck.”

Scripture readings are based on Psalm 133, 1 John 1-2:2, Romans 8:31-39 and John 20:19-31.

On July 19th our guest musician will be Mark Fulep, an outstanding Hungarian Flute virtuoso playing on a Yamaha 14 karat gold Flute he has been awarded by the Hungarian government. Mark has been invited to perform at the International Flute Convention at the University of Toronto. He is offering a Master Class/Coaching sessions after the service at the church, from 2 p.m. If you know of any Flute players who would like to take advantage of this rare opportunity please, pass on the information to them. Five weeks to go until Vacation Bible Camp (August 17-21).  Please note the list of needed donations to be dropped off at our office.
